My Life
I’ve often sat and reflected
On the special times in my life
But there is always a sadness that haunts me
That’s the illness and death of my wife
After 40 years as a couple
I faced the world again on my own
My family and friends are a comfort
But when the door closes, I am alone
They say that time is a big healer
And that things will gradually get better
Is this from a voice of experience
Or something they just read in a letter
Your fate is securely in your hands
The decisions are all yours to make
There are lots out there in your shoes
So now decide what path you must take
This life would be such a lonely place
If our memories were taken away
Those little moments that we create
That happen to us every day
They are locked away safely
To recall whenever we need
Often to share with others
Or just to give our emotions a feed
The moral of these few short verses
Is that our life changes day by day
We just cannot guarantee our destiny
But we can try hard in every way.
